SAVE A LIFE #ADOPT
DONTSHOP
We have dogs from all walks of life here at Leitrim Animal Welfare Centre. Rescued dogs are often thought to have behaviour problems or are damaged in some way. This is simply not true! We have old dogs, young dogs & teenage dogs that through no fault of their own find themselves homeless.
ADOPTION & FOSTERINGCan you provide a daily walk, food and some TLC to our shelter dogs? Get in touch to discuss our fostering program.

LEITRIM ANIMAL WELFARE CENTREOUR STORYLeitrim Animal Welfare (L.A.W) Ltd was established in 1997 by Christine Coulson and the Leitrim Animal Welfare Committee. L.A.W took over the running of the Dog Pound for Co.Leitrim in May 2003, in conjunction with Leitrim County Council. In 2003, 17,695 dogs were put to sleep in Irish dog pounds, a shocking fact considering the population of this country. It has long been Leitrim Animal Welfare's mission to change this culture of destruction. Leitrim Dog Pound became the only pound in Ireland to operate a “no-kill” policy, meaning no healthy dog in our care is ever put to sleep. The centre takes in between 300-400 dogs per year. This number of dogs and cats is currently increasing which means the centre needs to further develop and this puts extra pressure on our funding. This year on #AWAD22 we were awarded €36400 by Minister Charlie McConalogue and we are greatful for it

DONATIONS & VOLUNTEERS
We need as a matter of urgency to extend/expand our current facilities. The demand for kennels in Leitrim seem to be growing, with a rise in people wishing to surrender their pets and also abandoning them. We are here to help each and every dog that needs us, but sometimes the kennels we currently have can be full for a very long time, making the list of dogs waiting to come in greater each week.
We rely heavily on your kind donations and state funding. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Agriculture for the grant aid of €24,000 we received in December 2021 for the year of 2022. We will put this money towards our continuously growing vet bills for both dogs, cats and the T.N.R scheme (Trap, Neuter & Release) for feral cats, and the general care and feeding of the animals that pass through our centre before going to their new homes. Every bit counts, so we thank you!
CAN YOU HELP US KEEP THE DOORS OPEN !?
We've now made it easier than ever for you to be able to DONATE to us. All you have to do is text "WELFARE" to 50300 to donate €6.00 to the centre. This is a subscription service. Texts costs €6.00 per month. Leitrim Animal Welfare will receive a minimum of €5.40 per text. Service Provider: LIKECHARITY (Helpline - 0766805278).
If you are in a different country and would still like to donate you can DONATE through PAYPAL also! Put in our email address leitrimawt@eircom.net. Thank you so much!
